The media we will be deconstructing in this lesson plans consists of pictures that have been edited in Photoshop and also air brushed. These photos have been edited so that the people's body features are altered to fit the "ideal body image" that our society has created. This lesson plan requires the students to analyze why people edit photos and what exactly they do to those photos. The main goal of this lesson is to get the students to understand that the bodies we see in media aren't always the way they seem. Often students have self-esteem issues about their bodies because they see these images and think we are supposed to be perfect. In reality everyone has flaws and understanding that none of us are perfect is important. The importance of body image we should reflect on is maintaining healthy diet and avoiding risky eating patterns. Being healthy is the best thing to do because in all reality we all have different bodies.
